are there any generic elective courses in paleontology
Answer (1)
Hello Govind!
Paleontology is the branch of science which deals with the study of plant and animal fossils and evolution of life on earth.
As per CBCS guidelines of UGC, paleontology is provided as a core course to students pursuing B.Sc. in Geology. But there is a generic elective course related to paleontology i.e. FOSSILS AND THEIR APPLICATIONS.
You may find this GE course in UGC approved institutes.
Kindly check UGC's official website for more information or visit :

Hey Govind..
Apologies for reaching you lately..
But here's the answer to your query from one of our Student Experts :
For studying about Pre historic animals, we have to opt for Paleontology which is the study of history of life on Earth based on fossils. This includes plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, etc. But Paleontology is not a subject in B.Sc Zoology. But because Zoology is nothing but study of animal kingdom and its evolution, may be there will be inclusion of some species somewhere. But not all the pre historic animals. So if you want to take up study on pre historic animals, the closest will be a specialisation in Paleontology. And you may have to study M.Phil/Ph.d for that. But with B.Sc Zoology the curriculum does not provide enough exposure on all pre historic animals.
