There are, but it depends on the market as well as the availability of Coal deposits and other factors.

For example, during the Coal block in 2015, there were many cutdowns.

Plus, I'm currently looking at the conditions of my Seniors, from NIT Raipur. The batch of 75 students will end up with roughly 25 offers. So you can see what the conditions are.

There are jobs. You see PSUs like the Oil and gas companies, Mineral Development Corporation, NALCO etc - these companies do take mining engineers. So are there are enough job oppotunities? - well I cant say as this is dependent upon a lot of facts. However, you could apply for GATE after you complete your B.Tech and then apply for PSUs that take through. alternately, you could ask the placement incharge at the college you are studying if you are doing your engineering to give you details.
