Are we get degree of Phd after completing senior research fellowship??? Which is more research oriented? Phd or JRF/SRF?
Are we get degree of Phd after completing senior research fellowship?
Hello Piyush,
See Ph.D. is a doctoral programme in which you do research on the topic you select from the subject of your Post graduation generally. Ph.D. essentially revolves around research only where the researcher is expected to add something to the existing knowledge or even invent some new theories and concepts.
So, for all this government conducts National Eligibility Test in which the candidates qualify as just NET or as both NET and JRF. When you qualify as NET you are eligible to apply as the post of assistant professor in colleges whereas when you qualify for both NET and JRF (for which cut off is high) you are now eligible to get admission for Ph.D. in universities without having to give their entrance test, in addition to this you also get JRF which is
junior research fellowship
for the period of 2 years which gets converted to SRF which is
senior research fellowship
thereafter. The purpose of giving these fellowship to students is to aid them for all the expenses that they will incur during the research process. So, that there are no financial constraints for conducting research.
I hope this clears your doubt that Ph.D. is the research programme and the doctoral degree and JRF/SRF are the fellowship which the government gives to students.
Feel free to ask any more queries!
Good Luck.
Hello Piyush,
Phd is a doctoral program where one has to choose a topic of research and work on the thesis. JRF/SRF are research fellowship which is granted by UGC to work on a research methodology. The benefits of getting a JRF/SRF is that one becomes eligible for the post of lecturship also, so one can study and teach at the same time. Also, you don't get a Phd after SRF, for that you have to apply separately.
If i will do my JRF at Indian institute of Astrophysics. Then i have to teach at IIA, too???
& can you please provide me the scope After completing SRF in Astrophysics?
So, what is the best way to achieve all three in minimum time period??
Can you please mam elaborate more, it is very helpful to me.
