Dear aspirant,
To be honest with you boards and jee mains have or rather need very different level of preparation. Basically boards require only formula based applications whereas in jee you need critical thinking and a lot of smart work.
Like for an example, there are many people whom I know who scored very good in isc but finally ended up not even clearing jee or just clearing the cut off. So, for jee don't judge yourself on the basis of board marks. A normal 85-90% scorer can get a very good rank in jee than a person who has topped his/her isc boards.
If you want to get into good nits , out of 300 a score of 150 is needed.

During my preparation days, one of my close friends with 96% in Class 12, had only studied for Board Exams and just taken a Test Series for JEE and Analyzed each paper. She ended up with just clearing the Cutoff, whereas when she dropped a year besides taking a Proper Coaching, ended up with around 97 Percentile the following Year in JEE Main.
So you see, JEE is more than your Boards, though the Syllabus somewhat matches with Class 11 and 12th science. You may end with maximum 30-40%of the Total Score by preparing only for Board Exams ans sitting for JEE Main.
You need to practice and learn concepts at a greater depth and learning how to apply them. Ypur training for becoming an Engineer doesnt start at an IIT or NIT, but during the preparation phase itself, while adapting to pressure situations and applyimg the basic knowledge to solve problems of PCM.
