Dear Abhit Dohel,

as an NRI student, of course, you do have a chance to get into government/private colleges through NEET. But there will be a certain limited amount of seats reserved for the NRI students and you need to qualify the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test(NEET).

NEET is conducted by the National Testing Agency(NTA). NEET-UG is scheduled to be held on May 5th,2019. The admission process for NRI students is similar to Indian students wherein seats will be offered in the merit basis ie. the rank of NRI student in NEET. To get NRI admission, students must satisfy the eligibility criteria and register online for counseling by paying a registration fee of Rs 5000. Students, on the day of counseling, will be required to visit and produce necessary documents for verification. After NRI admission, students are required to pay the tuition fee for the first six months and provide bank guarantee/surety bond for the remainder of the fee. After the second round of counseling, remaining NRI seats will be converted into general or management seats. Students seeking NRI admission, especially with an abroad education, must obtain an Equivalence/Eligibility certificate from the university. An additional fee and form along with the required attested documents have to be submitted to obtain this certificate. Failing to do so, the candidate will not be eligible for NRI admission.

Students have to satisfy the following criteria to be eligible for NRI admission:

  • Passed Higher Secondary Examination or the ICSE with science subjects and English at a level not less than the core course prescribed by NCERT; or the Intermediate examination in science of an Indian University; or the .Sc. examination of an Indian University; or Any other examination which is found to be equivalent to the above examinations.
  • Individually passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English with at least 50% marks in each subject.
  • Qualified NEET-UG-2019. To be eligible for NRI admission, students must have at least 50th percentile in NEET exam.
  • Equivalency letter according to the regulations of Medical Council of India determined by the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi.
  • NRI students must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before 31st December 2019.
  • Proof of NRI status of candidate/parents.
