Hello Student,

Hydrogen in its elemental form has an atomic number of 1. This means that there is one electron in its valence shell. The electronic configuration of an Hydrogen atom can be given as 1s1.

This means there is one electron in the s shell of the atom and it is the valence electron. For this to become an ion, it will mean that the atom has to lose an electron from its valence shell. Hence there will not be any electrons for the hydrogen ion.

This would mean the e electronic configuration is now 1s0. The number of protons remain same at 1. There are no neutrons over here. This is the atomic structure of hydrogen ion.
