Hello student,

Bakelite is thermosetting phenol formaldehyde resin, formed from a condensation reaction of phenol with formaldehyde. It is also called polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride. It is a brown solid in appearance and is first synthetic plastic.

It is produced through condensation reaction between phenol and formaldehyde in the presence of either basic or acidic catalyst.

Hope it helps.
