born at March 1996. I've passed my 10th in 2011 and my 12th in 2020. so am i eligible for admission into Top IITs ? my "age" OR "the huge gap btwn my passing year's" will be any problem? been prepping for mains & adv and will be attending remaining two sessions. So just making sure beforehand.
Hi
Which category do you belong to?
The gap years between your 10th and 12th won't be a problem but your age matters.
This is because,
Admission in IITs is through JEE advanced and there is upper age limit to be eligible for jee advanced examination as per which to be eligible for jee advanced 2021,you should be born on or after 1st October 1996. There is 5 years of age relaxation for SC, ST and PwD so candidates of SC/ST /PWD needs to be born on or after October 1, 1991.
Now,
You have born in march 1996 i. e before 1st October 1996 , so you are not eligible for JEE advanced examination and thus cannot get admission in IITs if you belong to general /OBC / EWS category but if you belong to to SC/ ST or PWD category then you are eligible and thus after qualifying jee advanced you can get admission in IITs as there is 5 years of age relaxation for SC/ ST / PWD
For your reference
jee advanced eligibility criteria is given below :-
-) you need to pass your class 12th with at least 75% marks in aggregate in class 12 if belong to general or obc category or at least 65% marks if belongs to SC/ST or must be in the top 20 percentile in class 12 examination. For this year i. e 2021 this percentage requirement in class 12th has been lifted off.
-) You can give JEE advanced examination for the maximum of consecutive 2 years starting from the year of appearing for your 12th examination i. e to be eligible for JEE advanced 2021 your 12th board examination appearing year should be either 2021 or 2020 .
-) There is upper age limit, according to which to be eligible for jee advanced 2021,you should be born on or after 1st October 1996. There is 5 years of age relaxation for SC, ST and PwD so candidates of SC/ST /PWD needs to be born on or after October 1, 1991.
-) you must qualify JEE mains to be eligible for jee advanced
