The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS Mohali) is the Punjab State Government's fourth medical college, and it is being built under the federally funded "Establishment of new medical schools by upgrading district/referral hospitals" scheme. The National Medical Commission (NMC), the institute's regulating authority, has yet to issue a letter of permission for the academic year 2021-2022.
The institution, is built in the buildings of a civil hospital and the Punjab Health System Corporation (PHSC). The college will be expanded to Jujhar Nagar, about 2 kilometres from its current location.
In September 2021, the National Medical Commission (NMC) issued a letter of intent for 100 MBBS seats at Dr. BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences to begin the academic year 2021-22.
This year, the college will welcome its inaugural class.

For Diploma Courses:
- Candidates should fill an online application form for admission to the College.
- Admission will be done on the basis of the marks scored in National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET PG).
Because it is an MBBS programme, there are less placement opportunities. College is not a place where companies come to visit. Only the best students are chosen to work as doctors at the campus hospital. There are additional PG courses accessible. College is where good and efficient physicians are born. Internships are accessible in almost every field.
Infrastructure: Boys' hostels are far nicer than females' hostels. There is no Wi-Fi, but the labs are well-equipped. There are air-conditioned classrooms accessible, and the library contains all of the necessary literature. The food at the hostel is entirely South Indian. The guys' hostel is a little more relaxed. There are no separate washrooms in the females' hostel.
Faculty: The professors are quite kind and helpful. Exams for the semester are simple, as is scoring. The questions are on par with those seen in university exams.
