Camels can survive for long periods without water because: Camels are well equipped to minimise water loss from their body. They have specialised kidneys that reabsorb water from urine, and their urine is concentrated in order to minimise water loss. Camels have the ability to store fat in their humps, which can then be metabolised into energy and water when needed. It generates energy and water through fat metabolism. Camels have a distinct stomach structure with several compartments in the stomach walls. The rumen and the omasum are stomach chambers involved in food digestion and fermentation.
