Yes, an engineering student can attend the CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) exam. CLAT is primarily for students aspiring to pursue undergraduate (BA LLB) and postgraduate (LLM) law degrees at National Law Universities (NLUs) in India. There are no specific restrictions based on your current field of study, so an engineering student is eligible to appear for CLAT, provided they meet the basic eligibility criteria.
For the **UG program (BA LLB)**, you must have completed your 12th-grade or an equivalent exam with at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST candidates). Since you’ve already completed 12th to pursue engineering, you fulfill this criterion.
For the **PG program (LLM)**, you need to have a law degree (LLB), so this wouldn’t apply to you unless you pursue an LLB after engineering.
Many students from non-law backgrounds, including engineering, opt for law careers due to their interest in legal studies, corporate law, or intellectual property law. If you’re in your final year of engineering or have already completed it, you can take the CLAT UG exam and enroll in a 5-year integrated law program or consider a 3-year LLB program at other universities.
