You have tagged AIIMS MBBS, first of all I would like to clear that no there is no more AIIMS MBBS entrance examination , earlier it used to be there but it got scrapped off in 2020 from 2020 admission in all the medical colleges for MBBS including AIIMS is through Neet examination only .
So, if you want to get admission in AIIMS for MBBS you need to appear in NEET examination.
And yes,
You can definitely appear in Neet examination even if you have taken drop after your class 12th and after qualifying neet you can get admission in AIIMS as well depending upon your rank /marks in NEET examination.

Neet eligibility criteria is provided below:-
As per Neet eligibility criteria to be eligible for NEET 2021 you must be either appearing for 12th board examination 2021 or should have passed 12th board examination with physics, chemistry ,biology/biotechnology and English and must have got:-
----------) at least 50 % in aggregate of PCB i.e Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology in 12th examination if belongs to general category
----------) at least 40% in aggregate of PCB if belongs to Obc/ Sc/St
----------) at least 45 % in aggregate of PCB in case of pwd candidates to be eligible.
Also,
* to be eligible for neet 2021 one has to be at least 17 years old or more by 31st December 2021
* There is no upper age limit for Neet as of now
* There's no limit for the maximum number of attempts/times one can appear in NEET.

Important thing to note down here is
Though AIIMS MBBS entrance examination has been scrapped off and now admission is through Neet examination but percentage requirement in 12th to be eligible for admission in mbbs in Aiims is still the same as it was before scrapping of its entrance .

I hope you are doing well and good.If you are only aiming for AIIMS for MBBS, where you require not to only the mugging up the formulas but understading the logical reasoning which requires the knowledge of core concepts about the particular topic and you have to also focus for latest news and things in general knowledge.
As for the self study, I think you can manage AIIMS but it also depends on your timing, ability to do hard and smart work (planning, expected questions based on previous year etc.). If you are sure enough then only go for self study or else I would advise you to go for coaching (if you could afford) where they provide amount of question, guidance, inner competion etc as AIIMS have very limited seats and to get into goo AIIMS (Delhi, Jodhpur, Bhopal), you need to come in under 700 rank.
