Can a MBBS graduate from JIPMER, apply for USMLE and do residency in USA?
International Medical Gradutes (IMGs) who wish to take USMLE must fulfil two requirements-
The medical school must be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools which in your case it does.
Candidates must also take ECFMG to appear for the Step 3 of the three steps United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and to obtain an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the US.
USMLE will consist of three steps-
Step 1: Multiple-choice exam
Questions related to basic, integral science concepts to clinical scenarios will be asked.
Step 2: This step will comprise two exams.
Clinical Knowledge (CK) is multiple choice based exam designed to test the medical knowledge while Clinical Skills (CS) tests the clinical and communication skill through the aspirants ability to gather information from patients, perform a physical examination, communicate the findings to the patient, and write a patient note.
Step 3: Multiple-choice exam
In this step, candidate’s ability to apply the medical knowledge that he has gained is tested. Understanding of biomedical and clinical sciences necessary for the unsupervised practice of medicine.
