can a pcb student do btech in biotechnology?
Hi
Yes, you can do definitely B tech biotechnology even if you are a Biology student and you don't have math
But yes ,
Not all the college offers B tech biotechnology to Biology students.
For example,
NITs offer btech biotechnology, like NIT Calicut NIT Durgapur etc but you cannot get admission for B tech biotechnology in NITs as they offer admission through jee Main and it is compulsory to have studied mathematics in 10 + 2 to be eligible for JEE Mains.
For your reference,
Jee main eligibility criteria is given below-
---------------------------) Qualification required :- to be eligible for JEE mains you need 10+2/equivalent qualification from a recognised board.
Course |
Required Criteria based on Class 12th or equivalent |
B.E/B.Tech |
Passed qualifying examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with any one of :-
----)Chemistry -----)Biotechnology -----)Biology ----) Technical Vocational subject. |
B.Arch |
Passed qualifying examination with -----)Mathematics, -----)Physics, ------) Chemistry
To be eligible for B. Arch , you have at least 50% in aggregate of Physics, chemistry and Maths and also 50 % in overall in 12th/equivalent |
B.Planning |
Passed qualifying examination with Mathematics
You must have at least 50% marks in Maths in 12th and also 50% in 12th /equivalent overall. |

|
------------------) Age |
For VITEEE 2022,
|
------------------) Qualifying exam |
******** 10+2 with at least of 55% in aggregate of Physics, Chemistry, and Maths or Biology
******** For sc/st minimum% requirement is only 45 % in PCM/B ††† PCB students are only eligible for bio stream programmes i. e
††† After getting admission in VIT, PCB will have to mandatorily register for bridge course in maths . |

Similarly,
-
For btech biotechnology in SRM, maths is not compulsory. Students with anyone of Maths or Biology/biotechnology are eligible. So, you can appear in SRMJEE .
For reference,
Here's SRMJEE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:-
Academics |
Eligibility Required |
********** All B.Tech(except Biotechnology, Bio-medical Engineering & Genetic Engineering) |
†††† For SRM AP branch it is at least 60% in 12th. |
|
------)Mathematics or ------)Biology or ------) Botany or ------)Zoology or ------)Biotechnology as main subjects in 12th. |
