Can a student of IISC ,Bangalore be a Scientist in any field like Physics,Chemistry etc?
Hello Abhishek,
Yes, they can, and what's more, they are specifically trained to become scientists through their curriculum.
To be a scientist in the field of Physics/Chemistry, you would ideally need to enrol in the departments of Mathematical and Physical/Chemical sciences. In the Physical sciences, they offer programs on material like Astronomy and Astrophysics/High Energy Physics, which are very up and coming, high tech and research oriented fields. A module on pure Physics also exists.
In the department of Chemical Sciences, modules are taught on pure organic/physical/solid state chemistry, along with modules dedicated entirely to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Materials RESEARCH.
Now, research is a skill integral to becoming a scientist, and IISc's basic curricula ensures students' training in it.
Moreover, there's a Division on Interdisciplinary Research, dedicated to attracting competitive research across fields.
With IISc's curricula, legend of attracting highly meritorious students, and international presence in science education, it can be safely said that their students are some of the best trained to become Physics/Chemistry scientists.
All the best!
