Can an average student crack cat with 99+ percentile in 9 months of preparation? What efforts have to make to get 99+?
Sir which is the best training institute of MBA in delhi
Dear Shruti,
It is not impossible. If you work hard you can. Try looking for some good coaching institutes around you. As you know cat exam has 3 sections namely Verbal, DILR and Quants where Quants is the section where students face difficulties so just keep practicing and get your doubts cleared by teachers. Solve as many mock tests as you can and evaluate your self.
All the best!
There's an African proverb which I remember very clearly,
"If there is no enemy from inside, the enemy outside can do us no harm"
For Cat A dedicated 480-500 hours is sufficient for brushing up your basic concepts and solving some questions.
You need a proper guidance and time table to boost up your preparation. I would recommend you to join a coaching class like TIME or CareerLauncher it will help alot because they have been training students since years and you can use their mock series it lets you compete with the best students of the country which is similar to Cat.
Further preparation can be broken down to
4:3:3 (Strengthen your strengths and Weaken your weaknesses) and this formation can be changed as per personal strengths and weaknesses.
Quants : 4 hours (more if you dont have an engineering background)
Verbal : 3 hours
LRDI : 3 hours
Starting with Quant.
For beginners : Clear your concepts in first 2-3 months.
Arithmetic : 7-10 days
Number system : 10-15days
Geometry : 7-10 days
Algebra : 7 days max
Cord. Geometry : 5-7 days (non engineering students may ignore )
Modern maths : 7 days
These are ideal timings you can extend a little wherever required depends on the hours you can give and how much you can work upon.
Give sectional chapterwise as well as over all mocks.
Verbal Part.
Now most of aspirants are stuck in this section . RCs are like nightmare to them . So mark my words reading regularly is the key in this section just read and read each day for as much hours as possible ( The Mint The Hindu The Economic Times magazines etc.)
Do not mug up things understand them it will help you
The plan is
1 hour in reading articles Opinions Editorials etc.
Rest in
2-3 RCs/day and jumbled paragraph 5/day
Save around half an hour for other verbal ability questions.
You can follow word power made easy and Norman Lewis "how to read faster" to increase your reading speed.
LR & DI Section
This section is like make or break section .
So you need to work really hard for this section it judges you on many parameters i.e. calculation , speed , judgement , flexibility , decision making skill and many more.
So practice is the key
So brush up basics in first 2-3 months.
I would recommend to solve sets of Lr&Di each day.
Solve Sudoku and puzzles it will help you in this section .
Follow the above honestly and you can achieve you desire percentile
Make it to 12 hours a day if you are aiming top iims.
Solve past 25 years of Cat question papers it is available on Amazon by Career launcher it will help a lot.
And finally give 20-30 full size mocks since you have a lot of time.
Cat is not Rocket science it is about strategy and the way you work it out finally will define you.
Imagine the different scenarios about how you could present yourself in the interviews.
Imagine what answers you would give in IIM interviews, the good stuff that you would achieve later on and somuch more.
Fill yourself with the right motivation and direction and melt yourself day in and day out and one day you will have a story to tell about yourself.
"From Average to Greatness"
Hope this helps.
