The scaled score is quite close to the raw score. As far as I know, the difference between raw score and scaled score will be between + or - 10 depending on the difficulty and the corresponding scaling of your exam slot. So, a person getting 160 marks after scaling may be having raw score between 150 and 170. There is no proof being this, however talking to different people who been giving CAT consistently and personal experience makes me think of this.

Thanks,

Azim

Hi Aditya

Raw score is given on the basis of score acquired out of 300 marks. Whereas it will converted onto scaled score by considering few factors such as number of students appeared, difficulty levels of each sections and different levels of slot 1 and slot 2 of exam. Which you cannot find out directly because different weightage has been given to these parameters which later on will get converted into your percentile score.

Good luck for your career ahead.

Thanks

Hi Aditya,

I took CAT in 2016. I know of my Raw Score as well as raw scores of my friends. Basis that this is what i know of:

Scaled score of 95 in Verbal gave 99.8%ile, around 68 in LRDI gave 99.2%ile and 77.1 gave 99.8%ile in Quant. Overall 240 marks gave 99.8%ile.

Another case included scores around 74/45/75 for a 99%ile and overall 180 for 99%ile.

An overall score of 140 with sectionals at 65/35/55 gave around 95 %ile.

In genral the scores follow a bell curve with a peak at 90-95 percentile. When you are at the top scores even one mark makes a huge difference in percentile. But when you cross 99, the score difference to percentile difference is huge.

All the best

Hello Aditya,

Raw and scales generally do not vry much unless you are at extreme ends but generally there tends to be difference of around +-5% in it.

Hope it clears your doubt.

All the best for your future endevours.Feel free to ask more queries

Raw and scaled scores are not very much different.

Approximately at most a difference of 5% is seen which is negligible in most cases. Although it might provide you an edge in certain circumstances but don't be very much dependent on that.

And most probably the difference is positive to compensate between 2 slots or maybe to compensate for some errors.

All the best.
