Can anybody provide me detailed information about the revised eligibility criteria for Be/BTech at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology?
Revised criteria and Schedule for BE/BTech First Year admissions
In order to avoid delay in admissions for the session 2020-21, TIET has decided to revise its criteria of admissions to BE/BTech 1st year as per the following.
Eligibility :
The candidate
- has passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with at least 70% marks (65% for SC/ST candidates) in aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject*OR Minimum 70% (65% for SC/ST candidates) marks in a Diploma recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical education of at least 3-year duration.
- possesses a good moral character.
- is a citizen of India.
- has passed 10+2 examination in 2018, 2019 or appearing in 2020.
Desirable :
The candidate has appeared in JEE (Main)- 2020.
Admission Criteria :
The admission shall be made on the basis of merit of aggregate of three subjects namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject. In the event of a tie, the same will be broken as per the following criteria.
Tie-Breaker :
The tie at 10+2 PCM marks shall be broken by overall percentile score of JEE(Main)-January 2020. In case of tie at percentile, the same shall be broken by following order:
a) Candidates obtaining higher Percentile Score in Mathematics in the JEE(Main)-January 2020.
b) Candidates obtaining higher Percentile Score in Physics in the JEE(Main)- January 2020.
c) Candidates obtaining higher Percentile Score in Chemistry in the JEE(Main)- January 2020.
d) Candidates with higher marks in English at 10+2.
e) Candidates older in age to be preferred.
Note:
1. As and when JEE(Main)-2020 result is declared, admissions for vacant seats in subsequent rounds of counselling will be done based on JEE(Main)-2020 rank only. In case JEE(Main)-2020 result is not available by the third round of counselling then admissions will be done on the basis of criteria followed in the first three rounds.
2. In case any state board issues a single transcript/DMC mentioning the marks in 10+1 and 10+2, then for such boards, average PCM marks of both 10+1 and 10+2 will be taken into account while preparing the merit of 10+2 PCM.

mode 1 is via jee exam/neet exam-
(Based on JEE Main – 2019 score) for 70% of seats
70% of the total BE/BTech seats shall be filled on the basis of percentile based merit of JEE Main – 2019.
mode 2 is via exams obtained-
30% of the total BE/BTech seats shall be filled on the basis of merit of marks secured in 10+2 or equivalent examination in aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject.
- also note that to get admission via jee/neet examination, student should have scored almost 60% marks in physics,chemistry and bio/maths
- and to get admission via exams obtained, the student should have scored around almost 75% marks in physics, chemistry and bio/maths
- the student possesses a good moral character.
- the student is a citizen of India and is born on or after October 1, 1994 (5-years relaxation in age for SC/ST/PH candidates).
