It would be better if you have done some certified courses before you try for a job. Also if you are trying to get a placement through your college, then approach the T&P cell and talk to them about your interests and dream company so that they may be able to invite the company to take part in the placement drive giving you an opportunity.

Yes civil engineering dept students can also get jobs in software companies, but you need to have knowledge and certificates of computer languages and technologies like java, c, python, html and php etc.

Entry level jobs in most IT companies especially the big ones are subject to bulk recruitments and do not require a very high level of skill or knowledge.however, you will require certain characteristics to match the given profile but there is always a possibility especially in the non-Tech divisions.
