I personally chose computer engineering because of this flexibility you mentioned. I have friend who went to Berkeley for a electrical engineering degree but took a lot of computer science classes. He now works at Google as a software developer. In some schools computer engineering, computer science, and electrical engineering have a lot of classes in common.
