Data Scientist is a technical course and involves use of subjects like Machine Learning, Data Analytics, python etc. A student with B.Tech / B.E. or M.Tech / M.E. degrees is generally preferred. However, if you take commerce, you can pursue your bachelors in statistics and learn relevant skills required for data scientist and pursue higher studies in the same field to become data scientist.

There are online courses on data science likeCrampete Data Science Course that give you a certificate of completion which you can use to get a job as a data scientist.

After gaining required skills you can apply for Interviews and get a job.

Gaining a certification in data science one can apply for jobs like analytics delivery model data analyst, senior data scientist, lead data scientist etc.
