hello,

The typical eligibility criteria for an entry-level faculty position in an IIT or NIT are same across most of the departments/schools/academic divisions, as following:

A PhD in relevant area of specialisation,

A first class preceding degree, that is typically master's degree,

A minimum of 3 years of post-PhD experience in research/teaching/industry,

A minimum of 3 research publications in refereed high-impact/quality journals.

If a candidate doesn't have 3 years of post-PhD experience, (s)he can be considered for tenure-track position of Assistant Professor (provided one has good publications). The above-mentioned criteria are the basic ones. Some of the departments may impose certain additional criteria such as good academic records (e.g., throughout first class starting from secondary through master's), more number of research publications, and so on.

The baseline criteria are similar across most of the IITs/NITs/CUs/IISc. For more specific details about the criteria, you can refer to the website of the institute(s) of your interest, or write to the concerned head(s) of the department(s).

hope it helps.
