In UPSC there is only elementary level Mathematics which is up to 10th Standard's Mathematics. Mathematics knowledge till class 10th is required in almost all competitive exams. However, UPSC is a very difficult exam and if you are not that good in mathematics you should practice a lot and be the best possible prepared for the exam.
Also, if you are talking about the subjects you can choose based on your stream and knowledge then choose the subject in which you have your interest and devote your 100% attention towards it and surely you can clear your UPSE exams. It’s very important that you are interested in the subject and honestly taking up mathematics only because of the fact that the topper took it cannot be fruitfully for you as well.

Yes, you can definitely do choose standard maths( or can even choose basic maths, there will be no problem in regards to UPSC) in your 10th if you want to clear UPSC
In 10th cbse board, there are 2 options for maths.
---------)Standard maths :- it is for those who wants to study maths after 10th . If you want to do engineering or have maths in your 10+2 , then you should choose standard maths
---------)Basic maths :- it is for those who don't want to study maths after 10th.
If you want to clear UPSC civil services examination then you must be a graduate . So to be eligible after 10th , you need to do 10+2 and then graduation
For reference, UPSC eligibility criteria is provided below:-
*You must have a bachelor's degree in any, discipline from a recognised university.
*Minimum age limit :- you need to be at least 21 years old to be eligible as on 1st of August of the year of filling the form i. e as on 1st August 2021 for UPSC 2021.
*Maximum age limit :- 32 years , also there's 3 year relaxation on upper age limit for obc and of 5 years for sc/st category.

Your UPSC civil services examination consists of three stages
*prelims exam :- it is objective paper and is of qualifying nature , so you just need to at least qualify it to be eligible for mains examination, the score /marks obtained by you in your prelims examination is not added up or used in your final merit. Your prelims exam consist of 2 papers: -

-) general studies II ( csat )
You get 2 hours for each paper
*Mains exam. :- it is descriptive /written examination . There are a total of 9 papers which are listed below:-
-) compulsory indian language.
-) english
-) essay
-) general studies I
-) general studies II
-) general studies III
-) general studies IV
-) optional I
-) optional II
The compulsory indian language and english are qualifying in nature . You just need to qualify them. The marks obtained by you in these two papers will not be counted towards merit list.
*Interview :- After qualifying mains, you have to go through interview round, and it is more of test of your personality rather than knowledge.
