Yes, you can do m.tech in mechanical engineering after b tech in food technology. The basic qualification for admission to m.tech is that candidates must have B.E/ B tech degree in any discipline.

To get admission to m tech, you need to qualify GATE exam or any national level or university level entrance exam. Most of the engineering colleges in India accept GATE score .

Candidates are selected based on their gate score . Selected candidates are invited for counselling and they must accept the seat and pay the fees.

Unfortunately, the flow from B.Tech in Food Technology to M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering is not very direct.

The basic subjects and the overall knowledge related to mechanical engineering are much different from food technology. Most of the M. Tech. programs in mechanical engineering require a rigorous background in subjects like mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science.

There are, however some possible ways that could be explored:

For an engineer enthusiastic about mechanical engineering, obtaining a GATE qualification opens proper avenues by preparing for the GATE exam. A good score in GATE is a very good avenue to get admitted into the M.Tech programs of various engineering disciplines.

Specialized M.Tech Programs: Some universities offer specialized M.Tech programmes in relevance to your background in food technology. Examples include bio-engineering or biomedical engineering, which would be some possibilities. Though these would depend on the sets of courses you have taken and your interest.

Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in mechanical engineering or related field can be added to make your profile more attractive for the M.Tech program.

Seeking as much information as possible about certain institutions and what their requirements are for admission is, therefore, very important. Some colleges could be lenient with their admission criteria while others may offer specialized programs that may fit your background aptly.

Academic advisors or career counselors may also be able to guide you on what you should do next. https://www.careers360.com/courses/m-tech-mechanical-engineering
