Dear aspirant !!

Hope you are doing well !

Yes, you can get admission in IISc UG through JEE Main. If you score a very good rank in JEE Main but not in JEE Advanced, then you can get into IISc on the basis of JEE Main rank only.

a JEE Main rank under 250 is generally required for BSc Research, while for BTech, a JEE Advanced rank within the top 1000-2000 is usually needed.

Admission to IISc Bangalore through JEE Mains requires both a high percentile (99+) and a good rank, as cutoff ranks vary yearly. While a 99 percentile strengthens your chances, selection depends on competition and available seats. Check IISc's official website for the latest cutoff and admission details.

Hello Siddhi,

Yes, you can get admission to the Bachelor of Science (BS) program at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore based on your JEE Mains score. However, JEE Mains is not required for admission to other courses at IISc.

Eligibility for the BS program:

  • You must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) in 12th standard

  • You must secure at least 60% in 12th standard
  • You must pass 12th standard if you are SC/ST
  • You must qualify in one of the national tests, such as JEE Mains, KVPY, or NEET

Admission to other courses at IISc

  • JEE Mains is not required for admission to the BTech, MTech, MSc, or PhD programs

  • You can get admission to the BSc program with a valid score in the IISER Aptitude Test

  • You can apply to the regular PhD program without a GATE score if you have a minimum CGPA of 8.0 out of 10

While you can technically get admission to IISc Bangalore through JEE Mains only, achieving a 99 percentile might not be enough; you would likely need a very high rank within that percentile, as the cut-off for IISc is extremely competitive and requires a near-perfect score to secure a seat, making a "good rank" crucial for admission.

IISc Bangalore has a very high cut-off for admission through JEE Mains, often requiring a percentile close to 99.98 for the general category.

You can primarily access the B.Sc (Research) program at IISc through JEE Mains scores.

For better chances, many aspirants also attempt exams like KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana) alongside JEE Mains.
