hello aspirant,
yes you can take admission in PhD through gate score. however you need to have a decent academic background like cgpa above 8 in btech and also the institute which you have studied mtech plays a big role and also your mtech project. for new iits like IIT jodhpur, Varanasi, Patna gate score of above 600+ will have chances to get shortlisted. for old iits 800+ scores are needed. most of the cases mtech from nits and reputed state universities students easily get selected.

You cannot take admission in IIT for PHD through your GATE score because GATE score is valid for masters from IIT and you can placed in PSU on the basis of your GATE score you can do MBA and you can also study in abroad.
