As your academic records are average so it will be a little difficult to get a call from top b-schools as after CAT exam every college prepare a merit list based on your aggregate score which comprises of many factors such as CAT marks, 10th 12th and graduation percentage, work experience, engineer or non engineer, gender with different weightages for different colleges. To cover up the loss due to academic records you need to aim for a very high percentile in order to get a call.



Generally to get a call from top IIMs like IIM A, B and C you need to get 93+ percentile. But you would need to score above 95 percentile in order to get a call. Even after that there might be a problem in call in IIM A as you need to cross a min score cut off with all parameters other than CAT marks and IIM B which gives a very heavy weightage to work experience.



Still you can get calls from other old IIMs like L, K and I with 85+ percentile. Aim for 90+ percentile to make sure that you get a call and increase probability of conversion. In this case also you might not get a call from IIM I because it gives way more weightage to academic records even more than CAT marks.



With 80+ percentile you can get calls from all New IIMS. Also with high percentile like 95+ you can also convert other top reputated colleges like FMS Delhi, JBIMS Mumbai.



In case you are giving CAT exam this year then very less time is left so you need to brush up on your basics and give up lots of online mock test and analyse the solutions which will help you in overcoming your mistakes and come up with a strategy to attempt your paper which will definitely help you in improving your marks and percentile. It will also help you in knowing your strength and weakness which will help you in attempting easy questions first that will help you in reducing the chance of errors and missing an easy question. Also you will get enough time to attempt medium level questions so this will lead you to improve overall score and percentile.
