NDA examination is conducted twice every year admission to NDA and NA and on subsequent training join Indian defence forces as officers.
During thr training at NDA all the Air Force cadets go through common training. However, after passing out from NDA, the air force cadets go for futher training at the Air Force Academy, here the cadets are alloted branches depending upon the merit and choice of the cadets.
Usually, most cadets apply for flying branch.
Yes, you can choose technical branch here and hence join IAF as an engineer.
