Can I pursue animal psychology after 12th arts. If yes, can I do it in Mumbai or elsewhere abroad
Hello Umesh,
There is no direct undergraduate course in India of Animal Psychology. However, you can do B.Sc./ BA in Psychology which covers the main psychological domains. After this you can apply for postgraduate courses such as Masters in Animal Behaviour (abroad) or Research Psychology (which can be done in India) or you can apply abroad in universities which actually have Animal psychology as an Undergraduate course.
Eligibility for BA/B.Sc Psychology-
• completed the 10+2 level of education from a recognized educational Board.
• secured a minimum aggregate score of 50% at the 10+2 level.
Top colleges in Mumbai for psychology-
• St. Xavier’s College
• Mithibai College of Arts
• K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce
• Jai Hind College
• D. G. Ruparel College of Arts, Science & Commerce
After this degree, you can become a research psychologist. Research Psychologists study and explore human and animal behavior. Equipped with excellent analytical and observational skills, they research on matters of the mind and their relationship with behavior.
GOING ABROAD
Foreign universities in major countries such as USA, UK, and Australia have the following courses related to animal psychology-
1. Indiana University-Bloomington (Animal Behavior BS)
2. Hampshire College (Animal Behavior and Cognition Program)
3. University of New England (BS in Animal Behavior)
4. Utica College (BS in Animal Behavior)
5. Southwestern University (BS or BA in Animal Behavior)
6. Franklin and Marshall College (Animal Behavior Studies)
HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMAL PSYCHOLOGIST?
Even those who want to become an animal psychologist, it is not necessary to graduate in this particular subject. They can obtain a bachelor’s degree from accredited psychology, biology, or animal science program. Although there may be some employment options with a bachelor’s degree, animal psychologists typically need to obtain an advanced master’s or doctoral degree in psychology with a concentration in behavioral science.
I hope this helps. If you have any other doubt or query, feel free to ask.
All the best!
