Yes you can read law after doing engineering.

To start learn any course you have to start from the basic.

So to start learning law you should learn llb as it is referred to as bachelor’s course and would give you an undergraduate degree.

Wheres as llm is the post graduate course and it is referred to as master’s Course.

But there are many universities which don’t require any undergraduate degree so you can directly do llm in that case.

Good for you . But be aware that there is no additional credit that you can get. You have to go through the same LLB program irrespective of your graduation degree if you want to practice as an Advocate. ;)
It may be an added advantage.

Learning Law  :

• You can pursue various Law degrees such as BGL or Diploma in Cyber Crime, IPR. But if you want to be an Advocate, i.e. if you want to practice law, i.e. if you want you appear in Courts as an Advocate, you need LLB degree. There is NO other degree that gives you the right to practice as an Advocate.
• Various law degrees can be pursued online or through distance programs. However, LLB cannot be pursued that way. LLB must be done as a full time degree program from a University that is approved by Bar Council of India. In theory, more than 80% attendance is required for each semester/year and for each subject.
