Dear Aadil, A medical degree takes three to five years to complete in Canada, depending on the type of course you pursue and your previous qualifications. Many courses contain a first year consisting of preparatory work which is mostly designed for students without a bachelor degree in an appropriate science. Entering into a four year medical program requires at least a bachelor’s degree in Biology or an appropriate field. Students whose first language is not English must have verifiable proof of their fluency. This can be achieved by taking a TOEFL, IELTS, MELAB, or CAEL English assessment test. Other tests may be accepted by individual institutions, but you should check this ahead of time.
International students should also ensure they have taken the Medical College Admission Test prior to application. This test can be taken in the US, Canada, or overseas locations, and is used to measure problem solving, critical thinking, and basic scientific knowledge.
