Hello, Generic elective are subjects that a student has to choose in order to get exposure to other fields other than theirs. It will be prescribed in the curriculum of the academics itself. But however you cannot choose a generic elective similar to your own field itself. The allotment of the GE will be based on availability of the course in that semester and merit basis,
