You can definitely give your class 12th board examination as a private candidate.

There are several other criteria too which you may find in the official website.

The persons who are eligible to appear as 'Private Candidate' at All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Class 12th) :

A candidate who had failed of AISSSE of the board will be eligible to reappear for the examination as a private candidate for the examination of the year as per the official guidelines set for the private candidates.

Also, those who have already cleared his or her board examination but want to improve grades can also appear for the examination.
