It is not mentioned in your question whether you are still in class 12 & you want to change your subject before giving board exams or you have already passed out of school & you are thinking of changing streams for undergraduate course. So, I would answer for both the scenarios.

Case 1:  You are still in class 12 & you want to change your subject before giving board exams

It is difficult to change subjects in class 12 after you have completed the registration process in class 11 but you need to consult with your principal & write an application mentioning why you want to change subjects & if the authorities of your board understands the necessity of changing your subjects, keeping your past performance in mind & the availability of seats, then your subjects may be changed. But the application should be submitted within 15th of July of the new academic session. No subject will be given to you that is totally unrelated to whatever you are studying presently. For eg: You won't be able to suddenly switch to Chemistry instead of history. That won't happen. But maybe you can drop maths & study Physical Education instead.

Case 2: In college, you can switch subjects after 12th for few courses. For eg: If you are a science students but want to purse your UG course in History, you can very well do that but vice-versa cannot happen.
