Yes you can crack SSC CGL by preparing from the Sophomore year of B.Tech as the minimum eligibility age is just 18 years and maximum 30, but you can only get accepted into cadre training, deputation and clear the interview if you have Graduated, as Graduation is a basic eligibility requirement. I would advise you to start preparing from 3rd year, for the SSC CGL Exam to be held in March perhaps when your Last Semester will be ongoing. The first two years of engineering education are very precious to any engineering graduate, and it is always advised to try to explore your university, discover career options, learn new skills and technologies as well as connect with friends and seniors or perhaps successful alumini from your department.

Hello,

Yes, of course if you commence your preparation early then it'll definitely give you advantage, but the thing about government exams is you have to sustain the motivation as it's usually is conducted over a year or two depending upon the schedule and as you're still in 2nd year, your studies are also priority and it shouldn't be neglected whatsoever,

SSC CGL consists of four level, the first two are conducted in online mode with mcq format, third level is descriptive test, fourth level is skill test of data entry and computer proficiency test. Interview doesn't feature anymore in this exam, a large portion of syllabus is attributed to Maths and English, the reason being it's not only in Tier I but in Tier II as well both consists of 200 marks apart from other sections like Reasoning, General Awareness.

First step towrds preparation of any exam is being acquainted with its syllabus, so you can download the syllabus from SSC website and take a print out, and keep in your study table. This will help you to understand what to read and what to skip.

Make a timetable, SSC happens over four tier level and with compeition increasing day by day, the level of question too have gone up in recent times. Everyone has a different study style, not everybody can stretch over a longer period of time, so you've to decide accordingly, take breaks in between study. For instance, you can practice the mock papers in the weekends after five days of study, this way you can evaluate your progress as well.

SSC often repeats question, so going through previous year paper is must.

There are free mock papers available at various competitive exam sites, which you can use them to practice, it'll help you know your strength and the areas you require to improve.

Test series are highly important, as this exam is in online mode, unless an aspirant has good time management and has fair idea of what to attempt and what to skip, this will become a difficult task to handle.
