SMEAT 2025: Complete Guide | Preparation Guide
First things first, there is no concept of Free MBBS seat. We have Government Medical Colleges, Private Medical Colleges and Deemed/Central Universities. The lowest fees is in Colleges like MAMC, AIIMS, etc. The next lowest fees is in Government Medical Colleges which is fixed by the relevant State Government Authorities. Then there are Government Quota seats in Private Medical Colleges and the highest fee structure is seen in Private Medical Colleges for their Management and NRI Quotas. Private Medical Colleges do not participate in All India Counselling and the seats are filled through State Counselling alone. And for appearing for State Counselling you need to hold the domicile of that particular State. Or else the only other option is through Management Quota. Under All India Quota, All the 15% of All India Quota Seats except for Jammu and Kashmir, 100% Seats at Deemed and Central Universities, IP Quota seats in ESIC Colleges, Seats at AFMC, AIIMS and JIPMER are filled by DGHS. The 85% State Quota and Private Colleges are filled by the respective State Authorities. And there are 3 Categories in Private Medical Colleges. Category A is the Government Quota Seats. And only candidates of the home State are eligible to apply for these seats. B Category seats are also called Management Quota Seats and they are filled through State Counselling and the remaining seats are filled through direct Admissions by contacting the College directly provided the Candidate has registered for the respective State Counselling and has not been able to secure a seat in the Counselling. Here the fees is usually nothing less than 40 lakhs. The last Category is NRI seats Category and you cannot apply for that. Now the topics mentioned under Do or Die Chapters in our article https://medicine.careers360.com/articles/do-or-die-chapters-for-neet are based on the analysis of previous years question papers and they help you score more. But to secure a seat in MBBS with the lowest fee structure, you cannot afford to skip on any topic. MAMC has a fee of around 7,000-8,000 Rs per annum. In 2019, a score of 701 was the top score to select MAMC. And anything less than 575 might not get you a seat in MAMC if you do not have State Quota. This is the level of competition involved in Colleges that have less fee structure. And for a score to be able to get a seat in such Colleges, you cannot afford to skip any question in the exam which means you have to know every topic in the syllabus irrespective of its weightage. .
