Yes, you study modern medicine in bams but as per the aayurvedic syllabus and criteria but you can't study about the allopathi medicines in bams and even you can't prescribe allopathi medicine
Bams is all about the aayurvedic coarse which includes study of aayurvedic medicine and surgery..
Bams graduates have been permitted to practice modern medicine in the state of Maharashtra.
And even In the state of karnataka ..
Bams doctor is appointed in primary health centres in rural areas can and you can practice modern-medicine in case of "emergencies".
Hope this information will help you to solve your query
Thank you
Hello aspirant,
Bams doesnot have an option to study modern medicine per say. Ayurvedic doctors donot make use of any modern medicines atleast in kerala. But the 5 and a half years course has included modern medicine with regards to diagnosis and investigations in the syllabus. We learn anatomy and physiology in first prof along with other main stream ayurveda related subjects. In third year we study gynaecology, pediatrics and general medicine (not treatment wise). We follow textbooks same as for mbbs for these subjects. Now coming to surgery, an ayurvedic surgeon (MD in salyatantra) can perform small surgeries as mentioned in the norms of ccim. They are mostly focussed on ano rectal cases like haemorrhoids, Pilonidal sinus, fistula-in-ano etc.
Hope it helps!
