Hello Harsh,
Teaching is one of the noble profession in the world. From inspiring to imparting knowledge to students, a professor is someone who helps you glide your way to success. They inspire you, provide you with knowledge, motivate you.
In order to become a professor in India, you have to follow a few steps:
After completing your master’s you are eligible to write NET examination (National Eligibility Test) conducted by UGC (University Grants Commision) twice a year in June and December. To be eligible to write this examination you must secure a minimum of 55% in your masters.
Apart from NET, you can even write SLET (State Level Eligibility Test). The basic difference between the two is if you clear NET exam you are eligible to apply for assistant professor post in any university across the country, on the other hand, candidates who clear SLET exam work with state-level universities, colleges, institutions.
Note: In 2016, UGC brought an amendment for candidates who hold PhD degree. Such candidates are exempted from writing the NET examination to become a professor.
Although NET is basic qualification required to become a professor in a university, however, a few prominent universities across India such as IITs have conditions wherein candidates applying for the position of a professor must hold a PhD degree and additionally have a few years of work experience along with clearing NET examination.
Hope this information is sufficient to get to start.
