Can you let me know about the industrial placement for Chemical Engineering students ?
Hello Deepika.
Placement from any branch depends upon an array of factors. First and foremost would be the college you are studying in. Some colleges have higher rates of placements than the other. While some colleges have more paying less placement other might have less paying but more number of placements.next comes the branch, some branches have more chance of getting placed than the others. For example an ECE candidate has more chance of getting placed than a metallurgy one . If you want good placements, then definitely you should aim for doing chemical engineering in a good city irrespective of the city, state you live in. You should be ready to relocate for education. Further, you should also work on the personal level ensure that you have the right soft skills, computer skills, personality, english language competence to get a job in first attempt.
Chemical Engineering is useful in
- Pharmaceutical companies,
- industrial companies,
- plastic companies,
- chemical and pesticide companies,
- agricultural companies,
- Petroleum works etc
Nuclear Power Plants and Nuclear Research Centres also have jobs opportunities for Chemical Engineers. Several Chemical students have got job in BHABHA while now India is also building several Nuclear Power plants. We already have one in Tamil Nadu. This is just a beginning since government has decided to focus on Nuclear energy to fulfil power demand of the nation. Thus there is a risingrscope for chemical engineering in future as well. Pharmaceutcomp are also good option for chemical engineers, they lead the way for campus interviews in India for chemical engineers. Ranbaxy is the most famous name in India and offers a lot of on campus placements for Chemical students.

Normally the average package of chemical engg graduates in IITs fall in the range 10–12 lpa and that in NITs is 4.5–7lpa. But exceptions are always there, some students get PPO and its varies between 20–32lpa.There are some PSUs who recruit though GATE/Their own exams. The starting package of PSUs is averaged to 10–12lpa.
I hope this was helpful.
Have a bright future Deepika.
Hello, there are very less job vacancies available in chemical engineering which is only in government sector. No private company offered any job for checmical engineers on a large manner because India do not produced that much of chemical engineers and those who took up the challenges ended up with government job successfully.
So there are negligible vacancies available.
