Hello Shreyas!

Engineering Physics is an advanced version of physics studied by a science student in 11th-12th classes or during IIT-JEE preparation.

In 1st year of B.tech this subject is included in syllabus in almost all the colleges of India and the curriculum includes practical as well as theoretical approach to any problem. You will learn to deal with any problem in physics more analytically as you used to do earlier. Topics would be same as in your 11th-12th just some additional topics would be there and some more experiments will be included to increase your practical knowledge .

Hope that helps!

Hey !

Engineering physics refers to the study of the combined disciplines of physics, mathematics and engineering, particularly computer, nuclear, electrical, electronic, materials or mechanical engineering. Generally you will be having Engineering physics in the first year of your undergraduation course (Btech or related technical studies). Mostly this will be continuation of the physics you have studied in you inter (but the extended version). The topics you will be having are Bonding in Solids, Crystallography and Crystal Structures, X-ray Diffraction, Defects in Crystals, Elements of Statistical Mechanics, Semiconductor Physics, Dielectric Properties, Magnetic Properties, Lasers, Fiber Optics, Nanotechnology etc.

Hope this helps

All the best !

Hello Shreyas .

Engineering physics is one of the subject which each engineer have to study in first year of B-tech. It contains few chapters of eleventh and intermediate like optics, Interference relativity and some advanced form of it like maxwell equation . Hall and Meissner effects etc.

Ok

Hello Shreyas,

Engineering Physics is a unique branch of engineering discipline with a combination of physics, mathematics, electrical engineering and other advanced technology subjects. Graduates in Engineering Physics are provided with a strong base in the science & physics with engineering. Basically we can say that it is an systems approach to engineering. Graduate in engineering physics are prepared to find solutions for complex technological problems in nuclear science, aerospace, computing, etc. Most of the curriculum in engineering physics have strong emphasis on advanced mathematics, chemistry and physics. They are rigorous too. Some of the curriculum also provide insights on material sciences, electronics, computer systems and optics as well. While the other engineering branches are focused more or less in a narrow subjects, the engineering physics students are exposed with a blend of mathematics, physics, electrical engineering and computing.

With a good exposure and broad view on Mathematics, Material Science, Physics, Electronics, Computers & Optics, engineering physics graduates have a wide range of career options available in the research and innovation in the industry and the academia. Most of the curriculum models has emphasis on the basic physics with the underlying technology. Some institutions like IITs offer course with the support from two different department such as Physics & Electrial Engineering. This way, the expertise in both the subjects can be utilized. Elective courses helps the student to choose the right direction after graduation. The programme offered by IIT Varanasi has Physics, Mathematics, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Material Sciences and Programming, Communication, CAD, Electrical Machines, Digital Design and Power Systems.

If you are keen to proceed your career with engineering physics, you should choose an institution with strong industrial / government tie ups. Like all other branches in engineering, this branch too has lot of applications in the industry and one should try to get as an intern in good organization that helps to apply the theory learned in the class room.

The placements of B.Tech in engineering physics at IIT, Madras is one of the best with the salary ranging from Rs 4.2 lakh per annum to Rs 25 lakh per annum. The average salary package here is Rs 9.84 lakh. The companies recruiting students of engineering physics are from different fields and offer different posts and salary packages accordingly, within the mentioned range.

The companies visiting the campus for engineering physics students, along with their posts, include:

1) Axis Bank Ltd - Manager IT

2) Capgemini India Pvt Ltd - Associate Consultant

3) Ernst and Young - Associate Consultant

4) Grey Orange Pte. - Software Engineer

5) Hasura - Junior Engineer

6) Honeywell - Software Engineer

7) HSBC - Associate Analyst

8) Intel Technology India Pvt Ltd - Software Engineer OR Component Design Engineer

9) J.P. Morgan - Analyst Data Science

10) LatentView Analytics Pvt Ltd - Analyst

11) MyAlly - Data Scientist NLP and ML

12) The Hindu Group - Product Engineer

13) VirtusaPolaris Engineer

14) Wrig Nanosystems Pvt. Ltd. - Technology Development Engineer.

Hello Shreyas!!

Engineering physics is somewhat related to high level of experimental physics from your class 12 level and goes to the advanced level.

Most of IIT and some NIT have engineering physics branch in their course like other branch of engineering. And if u are really interested in research work as per your future perspective then u can go for it .

Hope it helps!!
