Hello Aspirant,

Backlogs are something that a candidate has to clear. If you're talking about GATE exam and are interested in MHRD scholarship. Then gap year doesn't matters as IITs and NITs accept GATE score of 3 years. And any candidate can give GATE exam, even if they have backlogs.
