Correct Answer: Adsorbent

Solution : The correct answer is adsorbent.

Charcoal is used in water treatment plants as a water purifying agent. It is an adsorbing agent, i.e. the unwanted ions, atoms, molecules etc. attach to the charcoal surface because of adhesion. Because of this property when charcoal is put in water it adsorbs all the impurities present in the water and purifies it. It removes small particles, chlorine, bad smell and taste etc.
