Chemical engineering vs mechanical engineering

Dear aspirant,

There are a few things to consider before rushing to grab a field for u.g program.

Both chemical and mechanical fields are important in their own aspects.

Mechanical is said to be the mother of engineering and chemical is for synthesis of stuff related to enginer and daily aspects of life.

A lot of study has to be done in both field, if you are good at chemistry, both organic and inorganic and are into research, chemical engineering is very good.

Similarly if your Physics subject is strong and subjects like strength of material is good, choose mechanical. Mechanical has a lot of intake and has a lot of jobs.

Chemical has a few intakes with less colleges having chemical courses up for grab but the placements in chemical are good

I would prefer MECHANICAL engineering over Chemical engineering because it is one of the core branchs of engineering along with electrical and civil engineering. There is more job opportunities in mechanical rather than in chemical engineering. Chemical engineering is more of research based and the pay will also be limited. Still mechanical engineering also depends upon the type of college from which you are perusing engineering.

Follow your interest.



Most of the students dont follow there core stream after gratuation. I did Btech Chemical, Mtech in Energy and I am currently working in automobile company as energy engineer. I have seen many Non computer science engineers working as programmers. If you are adaptive enough all engineering streams are open for you once you complete your engineering.



This is my own belief :

All Engineering fields are related.

If you are doing engineering in one field your brain learns to become an engineer.

You can follow main stream you learned as career option but you can certainly try to go for jobs in other engineering fields also.

You cant possibly learn eveything in college. College is starting point and one you are in particular job you as an engineer have to keep studying about the subject that your job requires.
