With reference to your above mentioned query, I would like to tell you that Civil engineering is far much better option than Btech in Food and Technology. There are a wide range of scope in Civil Engineering by which Btech in Food and technology is lacking. Civil Engineering is good option as compared to Btech in Food and Technology in terms of career opportunities, job offers, academics and career profile.

Civil Engineering is a course which deals with the development of the practical skills required to plan, design and execute the construction of public infrastructure. Throughout the course, students will get a deeper understanding of the various concepts involved under the broad spectrum of civil engineering and will be tasked with ways to improve existing infrastructure and modernise them to meet present requirements.

There are numerous promising opportunities for civil engineering  in both the private and public sector. With their innovative sense, they must deal with individuals and solve current and ongoing problems with their analytical thinking. The average salary of Civil Engineering can go as high as 5-9 lakh per annum.

Btech in Food and Technology : B.Tech in Food Technology is a 4 years graduation course that includes the study of both food science and food engineering . The study of food technology includes the various aspects of the food such as chemical constituents of food, the life of food, preservation, packaging technology, storage conditions, food chemistry, nutritional value, microbial growth, etc. Food technology works in the field of development related to packaging materials, storage containers, preservative, colorant and flavors, long term storage food, etc. that complies with the standards benchmarked by the government bodies .

Scope : A graduate of B.Tech in food technology scope gets recruited in various organizations such as Food Corporation of India, Public distribution firms, Department of Food and Public Distribution of Government of India and Central Warehousing Corporation.  The average salary for the graduate of food and technology can go as high as 2-4 lakh per annum.

Civil engineering is a very stable branch of engineering . There is always a demand for infrastructural developement , especially in developing countries like India . The need for renewable energy sources combined with rapid urbansation and developements in software and technologies ,the civil engineering sector is expected to bloom in near future .  Globally , as well as in India civil engineering is said to be one of the safest on demand job in the engineering arena.

Coming to food technology , this is a very interesting branch. Professionals work to improve manufacturing methods through new processing , preservation and packaging technologies . They test food products add to their betterment and nutrition factor . There is a high demand in today's time for food technologists across the world . There is a certain kind of security in job as food is our basic need and we and are food are ever evolving , so the constant need for food technologists will always be there. The salary prospects abroad are very good as well while they are still blooming in India

According to me both are very prominent, versatile and evergreen branchs , so choosing either of them will benefit you .

Hello aspirant,

Every stream is good in its own way. However, at the end of the day, everyone looks for better pay scale. On account of that civil engineer can get INR 3,46,700 per annum on an average. Whereas, the food technology in engineering gives you an average of INR 4.26 lakhs per annum. On an average, there is a good scope for food technology in engineering, as compared to civil engineering in India. It may vary in other countries.
