Greetings,
They are both wonderful branches by themselves.
- Difference in Placements:
IT and CSE offer much more placement opportunities as of now. Civil students generally lack private sector placements in most colleges. The average packages differ based on colleges but more or less for both, IT and civil the least they are offered in all colleges is about 2-3 lacs per annum.
- Higher studies opportunities:
generally, Civil students opt for either government jobs (PSUs through GATE) or M.tech to develop expertise in a certain area and improve placement chances.
- Skill and Saturation:
I personally feel that IT is not a sufficient course in itself even though so many students are offered jobs after completing it. As far as expertise is concerned, civil is a better branch with a more robust academic structure and solid foundation building in engineering drawing, calculations and more.
The bottom line is that - as of now, placement wise IT triumphs over civil but as far as core branch value is concerned civil branch offers a consistent flow of opportunities as the civil engineering job market is not as volatile as the computer job market.
good day
