Hello,

With a score of 40 in the CLAT exam and belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category, securing admission to a National Law University (NLU) may be challenging. Based on previous years' trends, the expected CLAT cut-off marks for the SC category in top NLUs are approximately 60-65.

However, there are alternative law colleges that accept CLAT scores and may offer admission with your current score. Consider the following options:

  1. Private Law Colleges : Several private institutions accept CLAT scores and may have lower cut-offs compared to NLUs. Examples include:

    • Symbiosis Law School, Pune
    • Jindal Global Law School, Sonipat
    • UPES School of Law, Dehradun
  2. State Law Universities : Some state law universities have their own admission criteria and may consider CLAT scores. For instance:

    • Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai
    • Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur
  3. Affiliated Law Colleges : Numerous law colleges affiliated with universities across India accept CLAT scores. These institutions might have varying cut-offs and could be a viable option.

It's advisable to research each institution's admission criteria, seat availability, and cut-off trends to make an informed decision.

Hope it helps !

Hello,

For the ST (Scheduled Tribe) category, some National Law Universities (NLUs) might not consider candidates with such CLAT scores. SC and ST cut-off in CLAT 2025 are more flexible, with ranges between 74–90 and 70–86 marks, respectively

Hello

In the CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) , the minimum score required for admission depends on several factors , including the category , the difficulty level of the exam and the participating universities' cutoffs for that year.

For the ST category, a score of 40 in CLAT might be on the lower side for gaining admission to top National Law Universities (NLUs) . However, you may still have chances for lower-ranked NLUs .

1. The overall cutoff trend for ST category : Cutoffs for reserved categories are generally lower than for the general category .

2. Number of candidates and competition in the ST category .

3. Vacant seats in NLUs during subsequent counseling rounds .

Hi Rachana,

With a score of 40 in CLAT 2024, the chances of getting admission to an NLU under the ST category will be based on the cutoffs for each institution. NLUs like HPNLU Shimla, MPDNLU Jabalpur, DBRANLU Sonepat, and NLUT Agartala usually have higher closing ranks for the ST category. For example, in 2024:

- **HNLU Raipur (ST category)** had a closing rank of 12,035 for BA LLB.

- Some lower-tier NLUs may have closing ranks up to 20,000 or higher for the ST category.

Depending on the score, candidate chances exist in NLUs with relatively higher cutoffs for the ST category. However, admission is subject to other preferences and seat availability. It is always a better idea to explore NLUs that have admitted candidates with lower ranks in the ST category over the years.

With this score in CLAT, SC, and ST candidates can get admission to tier 2 and tier 3 NLUs based on previous year trend. However, for top NLUs cut off is little higher for reserved categories. But,you can secure a seat in lower rank NLUs. To know more about expected rank and NLUs you might get, visit Clat score 40 expected rank and NLUs

With 40 marks in CLAT 2024 and belonging to the ST category, you may have chances at some National Law Universities (NLUs) that have relatively lower cutoffs for reserved categories. The specific NLUs you can target will depend on the seat intake and the category-specific cutoff, which tends to vary yearly.

In previous years, NLUs like:

1. Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla

2. National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi

3. Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Nagpur or Aurangabad

4. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU), Lucknow

5. Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University (DSNLU), Visakhapatnam

had lower cutoffs for reserved categories and might consider scores in this range for ST candidates.

To improve your chances, ensure you apply through the reserved category and utilize the ST quota in NLUs. Keep an eye on the official CLAT counselling process, as this will provide exact cutoffs for your category. You can also use CLAT college predictors to explore specific NLUs where you might secure a seat.
