The following are the steps involved in the conversion of propanoic acid into isopropyl alcohol:
In step-1:Addition of LiAlH4 (Reducing Agent) .Corboxilic acid is converted into alcohol.
In step- 2:By dehydrating with Al2O3,We get an alkene(propene).
In step-3:By addition of Water , following markownikoffs rule,the OH- ions attaches to the least substituted corbon .i.e secondary corbon.
