Cs engineering or mehacical engineering which one has higher in demand and give good opportunities or package also??
Hello Mayank,
First of all the selection of branch for engineering depends on your interest. You can't compare both the branch because both have there own field of work which is truely awesome.Mechanical engineering is all about design, construction and use of machine. After doing mechanical engineering you can go into automobile design and production.on the other hand CSE deals with testing, Programming, making web browsers, apps, websites using different languages.building software for design and many other purposes.
After the completion of course in mechanical engineering there are lots of opportunities in various fields of manufacturing, production, service and development. Here are some firms which requires mechanical engineers-Tata motors, bajaj,Hero,BHEL,ISRO and many more.In India,a student has cleared in mechanical engineering can get the offers started from 5 LPA to 20 LPA.On the other hand, after the completion of degree in CSE you can work in the field of database management,IT telecommunication, computer hardware and software implementation, gaming and web designing and many more. The reputed firms which requires software engineers are-TCS,Infosys,Wipro,HCL,Accenture and many more.you can get from 3 LPA upto 40 LPA working in different software companies.
I can tell that, like most people, you have no preference over what a branch actually deals with.
There are different perspectives in which you can compare two different departments, which obviously excludes what they deal with, because that cannot be compared.
1. Peace of mind: As a ME from one of the IITs, I can tell you that we were one of the peaceful lot of our college.
We dont get any home assignment.
The lab work is in groups, and one good guy in your group is enough (that means you dont have to be bothered about what the lab is about).
There are no/minimum tutorial subjects.
There are no lab tests.
And I never had to study anything throughout the semester.
Everything depends on the examination.
ME wins.
2. Grades: Professors dont bother us, the whole semester and they take the payback by giving us lower grades.
Our HOD openly announced that a C grade is something you should be proud of. And I am aware that same is the case in most IITs.
CSE wins.
3. Number of jobs: Within 20 days, nearly 95% ME students were placed but CSE was a little behind at around 90%. Thats not much of a difference and hence they both are at the same level in this.
Reason- In most colleges in India- Infosys, TCS and other such companies are mass recruiters. But they do not come to IITs because students dont even sit for their tests.
ME wins.
4. Packages in job: CSE, anyday. Just to emphasize on this, let me tell you a story.
There was a firm which came and recruited few CSE students on 4th day (which means it is a good firm and pays around 14-15 lpa). Later they wanted few more so they came back in february but there were only two CSE students left to be placed. So they were interviewed, but they had nothing much on their CV which shows their positives. So the interview ended with, we are recruiting both of you, but pleas clear all your credits by this semester and before joining, do take some english speaking course.
CSE wins.
Cannot think of anything else, that can be compared. Debating about which branch is more interesting is a completely different debate and which is something IITians shouldnt even talk about, because in the end, they all leave their branch of study to become a salesman.
Hope you get it
