CSE, PERIOD (.)
Don't bother about what your interest is. We know the reality, unless you studied your ass off for jee and did well to get into IIT/NIT or one of the awesome RECs, Chances are, you are still figuring out what to do in life.
But here's the sad reality:
On the day of placements:
Only CSE/IT/ECE eligible
Results: Most selects from CSE
Reason: Their course is more relavent to the IT world.
In a world filled with fascinating technologies, don't waste your time taking other branches. My answer may seem biased, but yes we need mechanical, civil, electrical and electronics engineers as well. So I hope all of you won't take CSE xD.
I'd like all of you reading my post know that CS is awesome fun. And you don't really need a degree in CS to become one. You can always do a degree in any field you like and see if that's something you really want to do and if you can land a job in your area of interest. Else take a year off, learn all CS fundamentals (Basically the gate CSE portions) and get a job in the IT field.
But again, companies might be specific when they hire and say: Only CSE/IT/Circuit Branches ONLY.
All the best! Have a bright career ahead.
