Currently, I applied for Mba and planned to study for SSC CGL along with Mba. I contacted some coaching centres but they only start their classes only after call-offer is announced officially. So, I decided to start self-study. What are the essential ones for self study and complete it?

Hello,

The recruitment of SSC CGL is done in four levels as mentioned below-

Tier I which is MCQs based conducted for a duration of two hours with 25 questions from each section such as English Language/General Awareness/General Intelligence and Reasoning/Quantitative Aptitude carrying 100 questions for 200 marks,

Tier II is also MCQs based test of English and Mathematics these two papers are compulsory for all posts, in case of JSO Statistics is applicable, and for  AAO the paper of General Studies(Economics & Finance) is applicable, all the papers individually carry 200 marks.

Tier III is descriptive test conducted in offline mode in English/Hindi for precis/letter writing/essay/application etc for 100 marks out of which 33% is the qualifying scores, it's conducted for one hour.

Tier IV: Computer Based Test/Skill Based Test/Document Verification

Interview isn't part of the recruitment process of SSC CGL anymore,

First step towards preparation of any exam is being acquainted with its syllabus, so you can download the syllabus from SSC website and take a print out, go through it, as it will help you to comprehend what to read and what to skip.

Next, comes the importance of study materials, always keep it minimal, regular practice and revision is the key here, you through the following recommended books-

  • For the section of Quant, you can refer Quicker Maths by M Tyra/ Fast Track Arithmetic by Arihant Publications /Quantitative Aptitude by RS Agarwal
  • For section of the English, you can refer General English by SP Bakshi or Plinth to Paramount, Wren and Martin is the best book for grammar and Word Power Made Easy is great for vocabulary section.
  • For the section of Reasoning, you may refer RS Agarwal Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning by MK Pandey
  • For General Awareness, Lucent's GK is is best option for static portion and when it comes to dynamic part, it's best you read newspaper on a daily basis such as The Hindu or The Indian Express, going through this will help you acquaint with latest happening and you don't have to mug up everything at the last moment.

Make a timetable, according assign number of hours to each subject, for instance, you can practice the mock papers in the weekends after five days of study, this way you can evaluate your progress as well.

SSC often repeats question, so going through previous year paper is must, this will help you in getting well acquainted with exam pattern, important topics, difficulty level of paper, marking scheme, evaluate your preparation level, you can access the same at https://competition.careers360.com/articles/ssc-cgl-question-papers

You can find free mock papers available at various competitive exam sites, use them effectively, through consistent practice it'll help you know you discover your areas of strength and weakness

Test series are highly recommended, as this exam is in online mode, unless an aspirant has good time management and has fair idea of what to attempt and what to skip, it will become a difficult task to handle.
